Tomorrow is our first "official" day of school, and I have mixed emotions. One part of me longs to be back in my classroom, and the other part of me longs for summer to continue. You see... I would go to school year round if it didn't start so early. I know it may seem shallow, but getting up early still kills me. Right about 9:30 or 10 each night is when I get my best work done. That isn't helpful when I have to get up between 5:30 and 5:45 each morning. One of Randy's co-workers sent this comment to me this week, "Boy.... it must be tough having to get up and go to school after 2 1/2 months off." This was what I wanted to say...
"I'll be glad to call you when I get up and call you when I leave school. BUT.... I will also call you when I'm grading papers at night, making copies, having conferences, attending PTO, developing tests/new activities, etc. I will also expect you to pay for office supplies out of your own money. Yes, I know that the state gives some, but we have to buy copy paper, you know. Oh yes! I forgot... when an upset parent is on the phone, you can't ever let your voice sound anything other than sweet. Don't forget... you have to have 75 parent conferences that average about 20 - 30 minutes each. AND... report cards. You have to pray that the computers are up at the time that the grades have to be entered. Oops! Almost forgot... 20 minutes a day of recess in 105 degree heat with nice dress clothes on, not so great air conditioning, and bunches of kids who still don't think they need deodorant. I'm sure I must have forgotten something.... oh yeah!!! I did forget the most important thing....
believe it or not.... I LOVE my job!!! I wouldn't have another job for anything! I just need 2 1/2 months off in the summer to have enough energy to make it through the next school year. I'm sure you understand!!! :0)
To all of the teachers, assistants, principals, lunchroom ladies, custodians, counselors, secretaries, receptionists, bookkeepers, nurses, resource officers, and anyone else I may have forgotten... let's go LOVE SOME CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
