Lots to blog about...

The DYNAMIC DUO!!!!!
Makenna and Madison Lynn were in the Star System Dance Competition on Friday night at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. To say they were the stars of the show would be an understatement. All of the older dancers gave them high fives and told them how cute they were all night. They won 3rd place out of 14 acts, and each of them received a medal and two ribbons. They also earned a plaque for their teacher, Miss Andrea.
It was so much fun to watch Makenna. She wasn't a bit nervous, and after it was over, she said, "No, Mommy. Of course I wasn't nervous." Good thing she wasn't, because I was. :)
On to more topics...
Funny things Makenna has said over the last week....
Getting ready for a friend's birthday party, I AGAIN was reminding Makenna to COME ON!!! Those tend to be the words I use most often in our house. When we got on the road, I said, "Makenna, you have to be the one pokiest child that God ever made." Her response, just as serious as could be... "Mommy, you have to be the one meanest mommy that God has ever made." Point taken... I set myself up for that one.
Last night, we had to do some last minute Disney shopping at Wal-Mart. Makenna is usually the best shopper in the world, but right as we were checking out, she decided to throw a fit. I took her in the bathroom and gave her 2 swats on the rear. I also told her that we weren't coming out of the stall until she stopped whining and snubbing. After a few minutes, we walked out to wash our hands. Low and behold, there was a woman waiting on me to come out of the stall. While I was washing Makenna's hands, she came up to me and said, "I'm not telling you how to parent or anything, but I have 4 kids. I never spank them. It is terrible to spank a child and tell them to quit crying. What you did is abusive."
Oh my goodness! My first thought was to say, "Yes, you're kids are probably in some teacher's classroom ruining the class for everyone else.", but it was as if God shut my mouth. Nothing would come out. My blood pressure went off the charts, but I just looked at her until she left. After I calmed down in the car, I decided that it was probably a good thing that I didn't say anything. Anyone who would be so stupid to approach a stranger is not someone I probably want to deal with. It blew my mind. At SS this morning, one of the ladies said that I should have said, "Excuse me. Could I have your phone number? Since you seem to be the perfect parent, maybe I could call you for advice from time to time." I cracked up over that one.
On to Makenna's comments... when we got back in the car after the Wal-Mart incident, Makenna started crying again saying that I hurt her feelings. After much discussion, this is what we heard...
"Mommy you hurt my feelings. My feelings are ruined. They're never coming back." Randy and I were about to burst out laughing but had to keep straight faces. Then we hear, "God is not going to forgive me for being so bad." When we explained that God forgives us for everything, she still wasn't convinced. Finally, by the time we got home, I think she was calm. It was quite a "dramatic" night.
On to other topics, I try to never bring up politics with others because you never know how other people may react. BUT LET ME TELL YOU.... when the President of the United States goes on The Tonight Show and makes fun of Special Olympic partipants, I have to say something. If that had been Bush, the public would have crucified him. But because it is Obama, they seem to sweep it under the rug. It blows my mind. People all over the country are suffering, and he's entertaining on TV. I pray for him and our nation constantly.
Continue to pray for my friend, Jennifer. She goes back to MUSC this week to find out more. I hope she goes down there, and the doctors are baffled with how much work God has done on her body. Hopefully, I can say one day that she is cancer-free.
We leave for Disney on Saturday morning. Pray for us as we fly and travel! Makenna is SO excited! I wonder if she will sleep Friday night. I don't know if I will have time to blog before we leave, but you know I will have tons of pics when we come back.
:)
