My Wonderful Husband

Many of you know me and hear all about Makenna here on my blog. So, I decided to dedicate this post to my husband, Randy.

We met in 5th grade. (yes, you read that correctly) His parents moved him to the school I attended. We became friends in 6th grade because we were in the same class. We even "went together" for a while, but I dumped him because he got a bad haircut. (Hilarious now... he has no hair!) Anyway, to make a long story somewhat shorter, we became the best of friends in high school. He was one of my "go to" friends. I knew he would be there when no one else would. We both dated quite a bit in high school, but we never dated each other.
I began dating someone seriously and then went to Clemson. Randy went to Alabama. We stayed in touch through letters (wow... what it would have been like to have e-mail). He actually came to Clemson and spent the weekend with my then boyfriend, and I tried to set him up with my roommate. Two and a half years later, I broke up with my boyfriend. I dated a few other guys at Clemson, but nothing seemed to click. I went home for Spring Break 1992, and Randy called to see if I wanted to go ice skating with him and some of his friends. I said yes, and they came to get me.

While we were ice skating, I was standing on the side of the rink talking to one of the other girls in the group. As Randy came skating over, he yelled, "Watch out! I can't stop!" He ended up knocking my legs out from under me. I was on the ice in major pain. I probably should have gone to the ER, but I decided to go home and rest. I ended up on the couch for a couple of days with a majorly painful tailbone.

While I was home, Randy came to see me numerous times. After a couple of conversations, I began to think about how wonderful he was. Why hadn't I noticed that before??? I knew he was a great guy, but he would really make a wonderful date. I didn't say anything for a while, because I was afraid it would ruin our friendship. When I finally did, he was game to try dating.

I guess you know.... it worked! We began dating in May 1992, and we've been together ever since then. He took a semester off and worked to save money. He eventually transferred to Clemson. I graduated in 1993, and he graduated in 1994. We were engaged in 1995 and married in 1996. 12 years... I can't believe it! It seems like our wedding was just yesterday in some ways, and in other ways, it seems like we've been married forever.

I said all of that to say this.... I am so thankful to God for Randy and what he means to me. He is truly my best friend. He usually knows what I'm thinking without me having to say anything. One of my goals growing up was to marry someone smarter than me, and I did. He is a wonderful leader and problem solver. He is book smart and common sense smart. He works in the yard, changes the oil, etc. while also knowing more about world issues, economics, and politics than I ever will.

We both work full time and share all of the parenting and home responsibilities. He cooks, cleans, washes, and anything else the house needs. He is a wonderful father to Makenna. She loves him more than words can describe. She is definitely a Daddy's girl. She's had him wrapped around her little finger since we brought her home in 2005.

I just wanted to let everyone know how much I LOVE my husband! I'm not saying he's perfect... oh my goodness, we definitely have our moments. Ask our families and friends. The 95% good times definitely outweigh the 5% of difficulties. I'm thankful to God for giving me a kind, generous guy. I definitely don't deserve him.
